This is a lovely simple sampler quilt with a twist - it tells the amazing story of a young slave girl who escaped slavery, but returned many times to free her friends and family via what became known as the underground railroad. The name Harriet Tubman is very familiar to Americans: National Harriet Tubman Day is on the 13th March. There is no record of Harriet having made a quilt (and there is probably no such thing as a coded quilt), but I used traditional blocks with names that helped me tell her story. This quilt uses lots of different techniques and is quilted as you go.
